Lebanon - Roman Treasure Dug Up
(11 Jun 1996) T/I: 11:23:52
Phone company workers digging a trench to lay cable in the ancient city of Baalbeck, in eastern Lebanon, came up with an unexpected find - a Roman treasure. Digging in the city's narrow streets, the workers unearthed artifacts including a rare and priceless Roman gold chain,
celebrating the god Jupiter. They found two sarcophaguses beneath the streets. One was empty, but the other contained pieces of gold, pottery, and the chain of 53 gold pieces shaped like grape leaves, which the Romans put on their dead.

Jeita Grotto • Lebanon's Hidden Treasure
Jeita Grotto ( مغارة جعيتا ) is probably one of the most beautiful places in Lebanon. It consists of two separate, but interconnected, caves with an overall lenght of 9 km.
The lower part (which is featured in this video) can only be visited by boat since it channels an underground river. The upper part is probably more astonishing since the cave is bigger and transmits all it's majestic beauty.
Jeita Grotto was also one of top 14 finalists in the New 7 Wonder of Nature competition.
Definetely a must see for lebanese and tourists.

Jeita Grotto, Lebanon's Hidden Treasure.
The Jeita Grotto is a system of two separate, but interconnected, karstic limestone caves spanning an overall length of nearly 9 kilometres (5.6 mi).
The caves are situated in the Nahr al-Kalb valley within the locality of Jeita, 18 kilometres (11 mi) north of the Lebanese capital Beirut. In 1958, Lebanese speleologists discovered the upper galleries 60 metres (200 ft) above the lower cave which have been accommodated with an access tunnel and a series of walkways to enable tourists safe access without disturbing the natural landscape. The upper galleries house the world's largest known stalactite. The galleries are composed of a series of chambers the largest of which peaks at a height of 12 metres (39 ft).
